Exabyte
Any idea how much an exabyte is? It is BIG. Apparently 5 exabytes could store "all words ever spoken by a human being"! The largest unit of measure on the chart is a Yottabyte (to bad it isn't Yodabyte!). One Yottabyte would be larger than all the PC hard drives in the whole world combined.

A Quick $700
Amr Awadallah, a Yahoo! developer, predicted that Google would miss their Q4 earnings back on Jan. 12. His analysis was insightful and in hindsight it was obviously accurate. What was interesting though was that he put his money where his mouth was and shorted Google's stock when it was $465/share. After they reported earnings, the stock slid to ~$395/share and he was up ~700 bucks. Although Amr certainly doesn't work on Wall Street, you have to appreciate that he put some skin in the game while masquerading as an armchair analyst!

Poop
I need to have my wife take a look at the article on diapers over on Parent Hacks. The author here elucidates the essence of the diaper business pretty well. Poop bags? Classic. Also see the comments for the discussion of, er, "blowouts". It is hilarious how important the topic of poop becomes after you have a child. Beforehand it is quite disgusting and I recall boldly proclaiming, "I'll never talk about that!". After the baby (Hannah in our case) comes however, the topic is suddenly unavoidable and interesting (at least at first, then it goes back to being disgusting).

The Price of a Pixel
If you haven't seen "The Million Dollar Homepage" yet be sure to check it out. It is classic. $1/pixel of advertising with a minimum of 100 pixels. It has spawned a myriad of copy-cat sites trying to cash in on this idea, but none will likely ever come close to $1M without some kind of innovation. What is really interesting is that the market value of these pixels has now sky rocketed far beyond $1/pixel. The current market value on Friday is ~ $152/pixel. SWEET! I think Alex should have tuition and books covered.

Spot the Bug
This from a webMethods press release a little while back:
"Working with webMethods Glue, developers can easily create SOAP interfaces for their existing Java and other applications. webMethods Glue supports the latest Web services standards, including SOAP 1.2, WS-I and WS-Security, as well as JAX-RPC and JAZ-M, and offers..."
JAZ-M?? Is that when Glue starts hosting a Saxaphone service? ;)

4.7 mps
I was glad to hear that the space shuttle Discovery had landed safely yesterday. I as in the vicinity when both the Columbia (living in Dallas) and the Challenger (Tampa/6th grade) tragedies occurred so it is always a good feeling when another mission ends safely. One interesting note about the shuttle... apparently the shuttle re-enters the atmosphere at 17000 miles per hour. While that sounds fast, it sounds a little faster when converted to miles per second which would be around 4.7. Compared to the speed of light (~186000 mps) that is dog slow, but compared to a fast human running (~.004 mps if you run a 4 minute mile) it is fairly snappy. Perspective is everything.
